Vodka Espresso Martini Variations
LeClair Organics recently made a few vodka based espresso martini coffee cocktail variations. For these recipes we specifically used our own Liberica coffee bean. Keep in mind that the in these recipes may also be relevant to other beans or flavour profiles including arabica, robusta or other unique beans we may have in the future. For these recipes we utilized Belvedere Vodka from Poland, quite a premium vodka made from polska rye. However as a Saskatoon founded company we see opportunity to substitute this for many other local Canadian distilleries that we have used in the past such as Lucky Bastard Distillery, Toronto based Spirit of York Distillery or others.

Syrup & Sweetner Variations:
The original IBA Official espresso martini recipe is quite basic and appeals to a widespread audience. A big opportunity for flavour variation that is easy to modify is the substitution of syrup sweetner. The liberica coffee is a premium bean with depth that can be appreciated easily on its own without sweeteners. However if you are looking for added sweetness and flavour, there are a ton of syrup options on cocktail emporium whom are from Toronto and deliver easily across Canada. You can see their syrup variations for yourself here. Fresh ingredients are always a bonus however syrups that use natural ingredients are great in the fact that they will last on the shelf very long, are premade and ready to use. To list a few to narrow down creative options perhaps look into the ogreat, vanilla, yuzu, blackberry & blackcurrant cordial, citrus variations, . Liberica is a much sweeter bean with unique flavour profile of jackfruit and almond. Therefore perhaps some exciting non traditional flavour combinations could be made with syrups! Sweetener variations may also add a depth of flavour if you decide to choose a local honey or Canadian Maple Syrup.
Espresso Vesper Cocktail
Belvedere just so happens to be the Vodka of choice used in the James Bond Movie “Spectre”. Therefore the inspiration for this unique coffee cocktail comes from the Vesper Cocktail which was featured in the movie. The vesper official IBA cocktail is made as 3 oz Gin, 1 oz Vodka and ½ Oz Lillet.
I tried an experimental espresso vesper variations per the recipes described as below. Honestly I haven’t seen this type of coffee cocktail recipe anywhere online so I was quite curious to see how it may turn out without any feedback. I’ve done many great tasting variations of the espresso martini, using both gin and vodka before with success. This recipe it combines Gin,Vodka and Lillet Blanc with espresso. I sometimes put ¼ – ½ oz sweetner such as simple syrup, demerara sugar/syrup, honey or other citrus syrups in the espresso martinis. The Lillet is an aromatized wine aperitif that we will use in replacement of the usual sweetener. As an aromatized wine it is blended with approximately 15 percent macerated liqueurs, bringing upon strong citrus and honey flavours. Having used citrus and lemon combinations with coffee before, the recipe seemed like it had potential. The subtle amount of Lillet Blanc was a unique combination with the Liberica coffee. Liberica generally works well with hints of citrus so the pair seemed to work. This recipe is a good basis to play around with different ratios.
Flavour preferences are always differentiated per the person, which is why I also included the Reverse Espresso Vesper . You are welcome to experiment with various Gin options and their respective herbal botanical profile. The classic vesper cocktail many times utilizes a Hendricks London Dry Gin. However feel free to test any local gin distilleries.
